Buyer’s Guide – Best Cordless Drills 2021

There are a variety of leading tool brands that make the best cordless drills. These range from the very high-end and well-known manufacturers, and all the way through to those who provide basic cordless drills at cheaper prices. In this article, we’ll take a look at which of these will suit you the best.

The manufacturers of drills these days, now include many features as standard. However, once they have all the basic features in place, then nearly any drill will perform your job. With cordless drills, however, the key feature that you have to have is a battery that delivers power that lasts for a long period.

Nowadays that will almost always be a Lithium-Ion battery. This is often known as a Li-Ion. The days of the older NiCad batteries are coming to an end though they’re still in circulation. My advice though is to go with a Li-Ion battery and as such I will examine the brands and manufacturers who offer these as their main core-drilling products.

Understand Bare Tools before Buying

Many brands now offer what is called a-bare-tool. That is they sell you the tool without having the battery. “Now clearly with a cordless drill, you need both the drill and the battery to make it work.” The great news is that when you purchase a battery, then that can be used with a range of other tools from the same brand.

The only other main consideration for you is to consider what other tools you may wish to buy. For example, you can get cordless screwdrivers, impact drivers, and various other cordless tools.

The good thing is, that if you stay with one brand, you’ll be able to use the same battery for all of these items. If for example, you decided that you liked Dewalt as a brand, then the battery you would get with your cordless-drill, will also usually fit their impact drivers, saws, and screwdrivers, etc.

This will help you save money as you simply have to buy the actual tool rather than always have to buy both the tool & another battery. The disadvantage of doing this is that you are then almost stuck with that brand for all of your tools. (assuming you want to avoid buying another battery). Some people are comfortable with doing this, whereas some others like to pick a different brand for each particular tool.

Whatever decision you take, if this is your decision, will come down to which brand you prefer and like the best. Let’s take a look at which brands are available for cordless drills and which one is the best.

Top List of Cordless Drills

This list has been put together using two main criteria. Those are the highest rated by actual buyers and in addition value for money. Underneath you will see a quick snapshot of all of them. Underneath those quick look features, you will see a more detailed review on every one. Every one of the ones on my preferred list is wonderful cordless drills. They’ve all got excellent ratings. They differ usually by price, brand, and features such as the battery power?

Let’s have a look at them in more detail.

As you can imagine the Dewalt- Brand will almost always top the list if you’re considering picking the best brands. This is the brand that the majority of professionals and contractors will use. Their products are very excellent quality, built to stand the rigors of hard work and abuse, and yet deliver great results.

This brand also the most expensive one and the decision is are you willing to invest the money to get the very best drills in the marketplace? Unless you plan on doing lots of work with a drill, there is basically no need to buy this brand. However, if you’re looking for something that will last for a very long term and work every single time, then this brand won’t let you down.

“With reference to this one, you’re receiving both the cordless drills, driver, and an Impact Driver. So two tools, two batteries, and a charger combined with the kit bag. That is a lot of product, and high-quality product that will last you for years”.

Milwaukee 2691-22 18-Volt Drill

Milwaukee, with its distinctive red branding, is also one of the very best manufacturers of tools, both corded and cordless. Like the one above, this is both a cordless drill and an impact driver. We think that the combination is really good value as it comes in at just under $150. For two tools of this quality, that’s a good enough deal.

This is not a brand we’ve used a lot. Those that do buy this kit, and there have been plenty of them, do seem to like it a lot. Hence the very high rating for this combination set.

The Milwaukee combination kit is covered with a 5-years  warranty. It is certainly a very powerful cordless drill & cordless impact driver set. They are both lightweight, and both tools have LED workspace lighting.

They’re currently sold in Lowes & also at the Home Depot and I have noticed them appearing in many other stores, both online and off.

This is an interesting brand for me as I have always been a huge Dewalt user and I find it interesting when a brand decides to take on something like Dewalt. There is little doubt though that they made a huge impression in the marketplace.

This is a 12-volt set and that also allows Makita to keep both products really compact. They still deliver a lot of energy, so don’t put off by the smaller battery size. You get a 2-speed driver/drill that weighs only 2.2 pounds and delivers 200 inches/pounds of torque.

What I did find interesting about this brand is that customers who buy Bosch tools are very faithful to that brand and have a tendency to stay with them when buying other products. It is a little like car drivers, in that they really seem to like a brand and will usually stick to using their products.

This is an 18-volt cordless drill from Bosch. This has been designed to be both compact and lightweight. Therefore it makes it ideal for jobs around the house, and particularly if doing work in tight spaces.

Most people know the Porter-Cable brand. Priced at around $70 this is at the lower end of the price-point for a cordless drill. I would class this specific one as an excellent basic model, that’ll be able to handle 90% of the jobs in the home and in the garden.

The 20 volt Li-Ion battery packs a lot of power.

This is a drill/driver with a 1/2″ chuck. The chuck is very high quality as it is an all-metal ratcheting chuck. That ensures that drill bits and screwdriver bits will not slip, thank the superior gripping jaws of the chuck.

Like many of the newer best cordless drills, it has an LED work light. Something that is particularly useful on this one is the handy battery fuel gauge which lets you know at a glance, how much charge is left in your battery.
